200+ Unique and Cool Chicken Names for Your Backyard Flock

On my homestead, I name poultry birds and livestock after particular groups of things. It’s my hobby and way of interaction with farm animals.

For example, my cows are weather, and my sheep are noises. It’s not that I keep on with the single name or category.

I keep experimenting with names that best suit their appearance, personality, and yield.

If you want the same, here is a list of chicken names that you can assign to your flocks and communicate with them in fun ways.

My Chicken Names

My first batch of chickens were somewhat of old lady or aristocratic names like Estella and Charlotte.

I wanted to name my colored egg layers after flowers like Petunia, Hazel, Clover, Violet, Rose, and Daisy. And a pair of silkies were kiwi and mango.

And my roo was Lully ( short for lullaby) as he was a comfy and sonorous crow.

He was a cross of an old English, and a red jungle fowl, and looks like dark bluesy jazz personified. Another was Rick Jr. Rickbis, which was taken after my old lead at work.

He got a short guy with a majorly attitude problem, and Rick Jr was half bantam, with the matching personality.

I want to add unique and successive names for my flocks, so I have to manage a ledger for them. Here is what I have recorded at the time of writing.

3 Dark Brahmas: Cerberus, Nutmeg, Cinnamon

2 Prairie Bluebell Eggers: Opal and Crystal (one is white with flecks of gray, and another is gray with flecks of white)

2 black Easter eggers – Shadow, Srimson

5 Copper marans (not all have names): Penny, baldy (she has a bare butt), claret, coral

Barred Rocks: Pepper and Shaniqua, The Matriarch, and Old Lady

White Leghorns: Meryl Peep and Betty White

Easter Eggers: Cheeks and Gizmo II and Twinkie and Caramel. These cheeks’ nicknames are Growler and Cheeky, while Gizmo’s is Giz.

Golden Comets: Penny, Copper, and Goldie

Black Jersey Giants: Reese’s II and Ingrid. Reese has got nicknames like Goose and Trombone, while Ingrid has got The Screamer

Rhode Island Reds: Sriracha and Teriyaki

Light Brahmas: Marshmallow and Lucky II. Lucky’s nickname is my Lucky Girl.

Brown Leghorns: Agatha or Aggie for short, and Myrtle

Old Lady Chicken Names

Old lady chicken names sound like sweet grandmas or elegant elderly ladies. You can give these names to your older hens that have wise or calm personalities.
